Matakauri Lodge is one of New Zealand's most private and tranquil retreats. The luxurious 5 star Lodge is set in nine acres of landscaped native gardens above the shore of Lake Wakatipu with private paths leading to a small beach and scenic walk. The surroundings and views of the mountains across the lake are indescribably beautiful. It is a world of its own, just 8 kilometres from Queenstown. Transfers to and from the airport are included in the rate.

Matakauri Lodge has 4 private villas set in bush land away from the main lodge. Each of these villas, finished in native timber and pure wool carpets, offers 700 square feet of luxury with 180-degree lake and mountain views from the terrace, lounge and bathroom. Each has a separate lounge room with open log fire, a private terrace and very large bathrooms with a 2 person spa bath, double shower, twin wash basins, under floor heating.

There are 3 large suites in the main lodge, 1 with an adjoining smaller studio suite ideal for a children's nanny or accompanying staff. It has a queen size bed and 2 single bunks and views of Cecil peak. The adjoining Wakatipu Suite is an upstairs suite which has a separate lounge room with views from Cecil Peak to Walter Peak through ceiling high picture windows. It has a private terrace opening out to the garden and croquet lawn. The bathroom has a 2-person bath and separate shower.

The Matakauri suite has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an additional toilet, 2 terraces and an extra large lounge room with uninterrupted views from The Remarkables to Walter Peak. The main bathroom has a 2 person spa bath and double shower. The Walter Peak suite on the ground floor has courtyards east and west to catch the first and last of the sun, separate lounge, and extensive views of Cecil Peak.

Matakauri Lodge rates include a full breakfast, pre-dinner wine tasting with canap�s, and a superb three-course table d'hote dinner. Guests may dine wherever they like, from their own suite to the depths of the wine cellar, inside our out. The menu features the best of local fish and meats and mouth-watering desserts, complemented by a selection of award winning local wines.

Lodge staff can arrange any of the vast range of sightseeing and adventure excursions available in the Queenstown district, or guests can just relax and enjoy its facilities with include a spa pavilion with a cedar hot tub, sauna and exercise room, a golf driving net, petanque and croquet court. The lodge has a formal lounge, summer room, atrium and dining room - all with open fires in winter. There is also a wine cellar, a library and viewing deck.
