New Zealand Map

New Zealand is made up of 2 main islands and a number of much small ones. The North and South Islands are separated by Cook Strait which is just 20km at its narrowest point. Just larger than the UK in land size, New Zealand is more than 1600 kilometres from top to bottom.

The North Island has a tropical climate and is home to a number of active volcanos. The South Island is the larger island and has several mountains over 3000 metres with Mount Cook the tallest at 3754.

To drive from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South would take you over 30 hours (not including the Cook Strait crossing). On the North Island, it would take you 9½ hours from Auckland to Wellington. The drive time between Christchurch and Dunedin would be 5 hours. This New Zealand Map is to scale.
