Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.
airport concession fee
An airport concession fee may be charged for hires with pick-up or drop-off from airport locations. An airport pick up fee of NZ$10 will apply for all hires with pick up at Queenstown airport. This surcharge is payable to Britz directly upon collection of the vehicle.
Britz provides free airport to Branch and Branch to airport transfer on day of arrival and departure for our Auckland and Christchurch Branches. Queenstown Branch is located at the Airport. The Wellington agency is located 40 minutes from the airport and clients must find their own way to and from the branch, at their own expense.

change of drop-off destination
If the hirer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ$500 will apply.
change of vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.
diesel tax recovery fee
The Diesel Tax Recovery fee will be calculated and collected on return of your vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during your hire.

A full resident country driver's licence, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers licence is also required.
early return of vehicle
Early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.

exchange rate / currency variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not accept any liability for variances up or down.
Unleaded Petrol ranges around the country from approximately 106 cents per litre to 115 cents per litre. Diesel ranges from 66 cents per litre to 74 cents per litre. Please not, these prices are approximate, exact prices differ between petrol stations.
From 01 April 2004, Britz will introduce the Inclusive Component, which is N$57 per day, payable in addition to the daily rental rate.
Inclusions are: Excess Reduction Option 2 Diesel Tax Recovery Fee 1 x Personal Kit per person (click on Personal Kit for more information) 1 x Table 2 x Chairs 1 x Baby Seat (must be prebooked) PGO (Pre-purchase gas option) PCO (Premium Cover Option).
All campervans are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first NZ$5000 ("the excess") of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental. inter-island ferry reservations
When making a booking that will require ferry crossings between North & South Island, Britz ask that you advise your preferred crossing times and prebook for the Interislander ferry. The customers then collect their tickets on pick up and pay for the ferry at the branch. It is essential to pre-book ferries in New Zealand in the Summer months (between November and March). Britz will confirm actual sailing time. The approximate time to cross by Interislander Ferry is 3 hours.
All Britz vehicles must be taken across on the ferry. They cannot be left at Picton or Wellington.

The Kitchen Equipment (crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils) is included in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.
Minimum rental is 5 days for all campervans.
multi hire rentals
Should a hirer have more than one rental (multiple rentals) then these rentals can be combined to qualify the hirer for our long term rate. Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and Southern Africa, for both Britz and Maui, can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3 month period.
e.g. One 14 day rental plus one 7 day rental qualifies for the 21 day rate.
For pick-ups and drop-offs on the same day, the daily rental charge for the last day of the 1st rental will be charged, and the daily charge for first day of the subsequent rental will not be charged. This will also apply to the Excess Reduction charge.
The One Way Fee (if applicable) and charges for additional hire equipment (tables, chairs, baby seats) and additional extras (PFO etc) will be charged per vehicle rented.
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Britz as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Britz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. Britz do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.
One-way rentals are available between all branches.
Travel 01 April 2023 - 31 March 2007: A One-way rental fee of NZ$220 is charged for rentals between the North and South Island (and vice versa).
One Kitchen equipment (tea towel, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils) and Personal Kit (towels and bedding) is included for the number of clients traveling in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.
The Personal Kit can be purchased for NZ$35 per person per rental or alternatively the Personal Kit and Pre-purchase gas option are included in the Inclusive Component.
pre-purchase fuel option - PFO
This value-added option allows the customer to buy their first tank of fuel at a discounted rate, set weekly at 5% below the 'high street' selling price in the immediate vicinity of their location. (There is no credit for unused fuel).
Alternatively customers can use the Fuel Service by Litre - FSL which allows customers the convenience of not having to refuel the vehicle prior to returning it at the conclusion of hire. A Britz staff member will re-fuel your vehicle on your behalf when it is returned. Fee applies.
pre-purchase gas option - PGO
This value-added option allows the customer to buy their first tank of LPG at a discounted rate, thereby avoiding the need to replenish the gas bottle prior to returning the vehicle. Based on the vehicle type, they simply pay for the first bottle of Gas at check-out of the vehicle and they need not refill the bottle prior to returning. (There is no refund for unused gas.) If this option is not purchased the client must return the gas bottle full. A service charge of N$20 will apply to bottles (regardless of size) if returned empty.

When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
Minimum rental period is 5 days. Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods.
Special rates are available for rentals of more than 50 days. Discounts available on application only .
Late pick up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations Centre in Auckland. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of NZ$150 in addition to the daily rate.
Repairs up to NZ$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100, Britz will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.
Campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula), and Tapu-Coroglen Road (Coromandel Peninsula).
Britz reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
Britz reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be NZ$60.
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
vehicle security deposit
On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable. The amount is determined by the Protection Package selected (click on Insurance for further information on reducing the Security Deposit). If you do not take Inclusive Component or Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2, the Security Deposit is NZ$5,000 payable by cash, Traveller's Cheques, or credit cards. Should the Deposit be paid by credit card, the amount will be debited to your account immediately. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not accept any liability for variances up or down. Should the Deposit be paid by cash, a cash qualification process will apply.
The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tanks (Fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas). Britz reserve the right to retain a NZ$125 soiling fee if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition. The toilet and waste water tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional NZ$125 soiling fee will be retained.
Except where the customer has purchased PGO and/or PFO, failure to return the vehicle with full petrol, diesel and/or LPG tanks will result in refill charges. Petrol, diesel and LPG gas refill charges will be advised upon return of the vehicle.
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refunds.
wellington pick up
Britz are able to accommodate pre-arranged pick-up and drop-offs at our Wellington agency if required (on request only). For all pick-ups in Wellington a charge of NZ$50 will apply.
