Description

Onboard entertainmentTSS (twin screw steamer) Earnslaw, which weighs 330 tons, is 168 feet long and has a beam of 24 feet, was built in Dunedin, dismantled, transported by rail to Kingston on the southern tip of Lake Wakatipu, and reassembled. It was launched in 1912, and still has its original twin steam engines developing 500 horsepower each and capable of pushing the vessel at 13 knots. Known as the Lady of the Lake, TSS Earnslaw has been a vital part of the lake's history, carrying cargo, livestock and people.

Walter Peak Farm includes the original homestead and homestead clock of what was once a 170,000 acre sheep farm running 40,000 head of sheep. First established in the 1860s, it was a failure until taken over by the MacKenzie family in the 1880s. The family, credited with developing many principles of successful high country farming, held it for 80 years. Visitors get to meet the sheep, learn its history, and visit the homestead and gardens.

Options include an Earnslaw cruise with a tour of the farm, a cruise with horse trekking, or an evening cruise with a carvery dinner.

Special Conditions
