Peppers Martinborough Hotelpeppers martinborough

Established in 1882, Peppers Martinborough Hotel is a historic retreat offering luxury, boutique accommodation in the heart of one of New Zealand's finest wine growing regions.

Martinborough is a quirky little village, encircled by vineyards and with a majestic square at its heart. This picturesque wine village lies in the heart of Wairarapa on the North Island, 75 minutes drive east of Wellington, and three hours south of Hawkes Bay. The tiny town (pop. 1300) is hemmed in by 30 wineries, most within walking distance from the hotel.

Taking pride of place at the entrance to the square is Peppers Martinborough Hotel. The hotel hasn't forgotten its past, and it's that sense of history and place that will charm you as soon as you step in the front door - from the battered suitcase of a gentleman traveller at the top of the stairs, to the sloping floors and olden day sketches of local personalities adorning the walls.

Today Peppers Martinborough Hotel offers character, comfort and old style personal attention combined, ideal for a romantic weekend away or an indulgent escape. Diners in the richly decorated and refined hotel restaurant can enjoy the ever-changing menu of modern and contemporary food as well as a wide range of excellent wines produced within walking distance of the hotel. A cosy open fire keeps pub-goers warm in the hotel's friendly `local` and the evening sun goes down in the garden and petanque pitch set among climbing roses and old fashioned box hedging.

dining

Peppers Martinborough RestaurantMartinborough Restaurant & Bar at Peppers Martinborough Hotel offers fine dining and gourmet cuisine featuring fresh produce and wines from the Martinborough region, just over an hour's drive from Wellington. Head Chef, Desmond Harris, creates an ever-changing menu of modern and contemporary food using classical French techniques. 'Clean and honest food' is the staple at The Martinborough restaurant and the menu aims to showcase the best of the region. The restaurant provides a richly decorated and refined dining room that has a distinct air of faded grandeur combined with lush furnishings. A superb wine cellar pays homage to the area's well deserved reputation as one of New Zealand's leading wine regions with a varied selection that includes handcrafted Martinborough pinot noirs and outstanding sauvignon blanc.

The Bar menu is distinctly different yet shares the same food philosophy - 'smart dishes' that allow fresh flavours to shine through and speak for themselves. The Hotel's famed Bar with its collection of memorabilia and historic photos provides comfortable space where locals and guests alike can pull a chair up to the grand antique oak table or gather round one of the wine barrels in front of the cosy fire.
